Tips for ways that moms can relax in order to give themselves some much needed me-time. Ten ideas for moms to unwind listed here.
It is the toughest – and for many the most sought after – job in the world, they say: being a mummy. You give birth to your little ones, nurse and nurture them, care for them, shower them with all your love and watch proudly as they grow into amazing human beings. And in the process, you most likely miss out on the one thing that is equally important – time for yourself!
How do you find it? And what do you do when you find it? Let us take a look at a few ways of doing this!
There is No Set Way of Finding Time for Oneself
The first thing we need to remember; there is no template to follow, or a set path to take, that works for all uniformly. We are individuals and each of us are different; so what works fantastically for me may not actually work for you.
We all have our own way of doing things and a pace at which we do it. It is important to be able to respect that; only then will we be able to identify the gaps where we have free time, that quick half-hour that was missing for so long! That little time that we always wished we had has always been there, we just need to tune in to ourselves to find it.
So What Do You Do When You Find Time for Yourself?
Yes, yes… we know we’ve flipped the idiom around… but there’s a reason why, and you’ll soon catch our drift.
So the kids aren’t home, chores are done, meal preps are sorted and you have the house all to yourself. Yep, seems almost too good to be true. But it really is! Finally, you can breathe a huge sigh of relief that you have some time to yourself. The only problem is, what on earth are you going to do?
We have a wild suggestion: relax and unwind! Sure it might not sound like the most productive thing on the seemingly never-ending to-do list. But time used to refresh and recharge yourself is time well spent in our books! We’ve come up with a list of 10 fun activities you could do to enjoy your kid-free time, because we understand you need it.
#1 Play Some Fun Online Slots
From classic, three or five-reel, progressive, 3D and even VR slots - if you thought you’ll be spoilt for choice with the variations this game type comes in, just wait till you discover the hundreds of themes available. And we haven’t even begun to talk about online casino bonuses! You know you’ll be stuck to your screen for at least an hour or two.
These are games of chance and a lot of fun to play. You may want to wager a little bit and play – you could end up with a life-changing jackpot! Or you may just want to play in the practice mode, where you have all the fun of playing and none of the pains of losing a wager. On an aside, that life-altering jackpot is not a Hollywood myth, by the way; it is for real!
#2 Sit Down and Watch a Movie
If you have managed to find a little more time for yourself – say you are alone for a bit – a good way to spend time is to watch a movie. A good movie keeps you engaged and provides a stimulating mental experience. And there is nothing like watching your favorite movie; it is your favorite for a reason, and what better way to spend time with yourself than to watch it?
And a movie experience also means snacks and lazing around. So get the popcorn – or whatever you love to snack on – and sit down for a good time! Find the thrill of watching a new Hollywood blockbuster, or sit down with your time-tested favorite – it could be a serious hit like The Godfather, or a sci-fi blockbuster like Terminator Genisys, which has an online slot avatar as well, by the way – and have a good time!
#3 Treat Yourself to a Nice Meal
You spend so much time cooking for your little ones and your family that more often than not, you forget about yourself! Many a time you neglect the nutritional side of eating. Most of the times eating is about fulfilling a bodily need; it is not about the finer points like savoring the flavors or the taste.
Now that you have time, treat yourself to a nice meal. You could eat healthy, or you could eat just about anything that you love – the end result will be a little bit of happiness and that almost-forgotten sigh after a good gastronomic experience.
#4 Go for a Walk
The weather is fine, the sun is not on Mission Overheat, and you have time on your hands. One enjoyable activity could be to go for a little walk. Walking is a great way of relaxing: there is fresh air around and that is never a bad thing! It helps clear your head and calm you down.
Not just that; walking is great physical activity as well! It is great exercise and helps keep your blood circulation in order and your muscles and body toned. And studies have shown that walking does help you stay calm and focused over time.
#5 Dial-a-Friend
One of the nicest experiences we all have had is when we talk to a good friend. In the hustle and bustle of daily life it is something most of us miss out on. A good friend means shared interests, thoughts and life experiences. And talking to one of them every now and then is definitely worth it.
So go on, pick up the phone and call that one friend you have been meaning to call but somehow never had the time. It is a good way of getting things off your chest, or of just telling someone how life has been. And it also means giving that friend the opportunity to share their thoughts and tales with you as well.
#6 Write in Your Journal
Remember the journal from high school? It was like your closest friend back in the day; you could tell it all the good things - and not-so-good things – that life threw at you every single day. It was a ritual, and one that you looked forward to.
A good way to spend time with yourself is to pen down your thoughts, experiences, notes; anything. Writing is a very cathartic experience; what you cannot say you can write. So get that journal going again; you will find yourself making time for it every day.
#7 Listen to Your Favorite Music
When was the last time you listened to your favorite music and smiled dreamily? Or listened to some good ol’ rock and relived the head-banging days? Life may not have given you the time to do that anymore; but now that you have found that little time what could be better than reliving those great musical moments?
Music helps you relax; it puts you in that comfort zone where the stress and worries fade. So put on your favorite music – could be the legendary Jimi Hendrix or good ol’ Elvis, or anyone for that matter as long as their music resonates with you and just unwind!
And the best part: you don’t even have to just sit down and listen; if you feel the groove, you could just get up and shake a leg!
#8 Get a Good Nap
One of the best ways to de-stress – every single day – is to take a quick nap. You may not find time for it during the day or, worse, you may think it is a waste of time. Believe me when I say it is not!
A nap is refreshing and takes away all the stress and fatigue that the daily grind puts you through. There are ways to elevate the experience, by using dim lights, putting on sleep music or even putting all music that recreates the rainfall sounds. You will be amazed how you feel when you wake up!
#9 Spend Some Quiet Time Meditating
One of the best ways to spend time is to sit down for a small session of meditation. Meditation calms the mind and helps you to focus on your core and relax.
It takes a little bit of getting used to, though. So doing this over the long term may be a good way to go about it. The easiest way to start is to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths – breathe in deep, breathe out deep, cyclically.
#10 Read a Book
One of the best ways to relax and have a little time for yourself is to pick up a good book to read. You could make this a ritual that you engage in regularly – get a soft blanket if you need, sit in a space where there is enough light – natural light can do wonders – and read a few pages. And yes, coffee definitely helps!
Reading is therapeutic and the right book can whisk you away to another world of your own, filled with the characters in the story and their tales. Who knows, it could be the start of an amazing collection of books that you end up with!
