Hermione Duffy, the wife of the late Rescue 116 Captain Mark Duffy has donated funds raised for her family to a children’s charity.

The mum tragically lost her husband when the Irish Coast Guard helicopter he was in crashed into the sea during a rescue mission off the coast of Co. Mayo.

A charity cycle took place in honour of the families affected by the harrowing tragedy. Participants in the Rescue 116 cycle covered over 110km of ground around Dublin airport.

The team raised mass amounts of money for the families of the deceased.

It was separated between the families to support them through this difficult period.

Taking to Facebook, mum-of-two Hermione revealed that she has decided not to keep her funds.

“The funds raised were divided in 4 and given to each family,” she wrote.

The mum continued: “We decided to give our share to charity, €2260 was given to the ISPCC.”

Hermione said the charity is very close to her heart: “A charity I have fund raised for before. Mark will know its my charity of choice. #mymarko”

The horrifying Rescue 116 crash claimed the lives of all four crew members- Captain Dara Fitzpatrick, Captain Mark Duffy, Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smith.

Hermione and her family have gone through such a traumatic time, but the mum continues to think of others despite their heartache. This gesture is beyond inspiring. We have oodles of respect for the mum-of-two.
