The Rainbow Run is Ireland’s most fun 5k run! 2013 was a major success with every Rainbow Runner having so much fun, that’s why they are making it bigger, better and more colourful in 2014! We are making sure lots of families get involved this year by letting 7 years and younger run for free as long as an adult accompanies them.
The Rainbow Run was the first fun run of its kind in Ireland, this unique run involves participants of all abilities and ages being doused from head to toe with coloured powder paint while they sprint, jog or walk our scenic 5km route on Dun Laoghaire west pier.
The Rainbow Run is entirely focused on FUN so there is no competitive atmosphere, no recorded times and no age restrictions, all that matters is that you enjoy yourself and finish covered in loads of colour! You can be an Olympic athlete or someone entering a run for the first time in your life, it really doesn’t matter at all. The real winner on the day is the person who has the most fun!
The Rainbow Run starts at 3pm on 22nd June in Dun Laoghaire on the west pier, however registration from 1.30pm to receive your running pack. Everybody should try to start the race dressed in as much white as possible (although not essential) the more dressed up you are the more fun you will have, so get your creative hat on!
At intervals along the route you will be bombarded with different colours until you cross the finish line and enter the colour festival covered in a kaleidoscope of pinks, blues, greens, yellows, purples, reds and every mixture of colours you can think of, Don’t worry though, the powder that we use is a non-toxic and natural corn-starch based product that will not stain your hair or cause damage to anybody
If that wasn’t enough fun, we really are bringing the party to the Post-Run Spring Break Party By having the fantastic 80s super-group Spring Break performing everyone’s favourite hits as they cross the finish line and during the large colour bomb that will occur in the finish area!
The Rainbow Run also focuses on giving back and we like to support a local charity. With this in mind proceeds will be going to Dublin Simon Community, providing services to people in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
