We have reported on some dramatic birth stories in our time, but we can completely understand why new mum Olivia Keogh would describe her daughter’s arrival into the world as ‘traumatic’.

According to reports, the 32-year-old was forced to give birth outside in the street, in the pouring rain, when the doors of a birthing centre were locked.

Ms Keogh and her husband, Freddy, took a taxi to the Barkantine Medical Birthing Centre, Isle of Dogs, after labour began in the early hours of last Friday morning.

According to the Docklands and East London Advertiser, Ms Keogh ran to the door only to find it locked. Her husband proceeded to bang on the door in the hope of attracting attention.

Passing policemen came to the couple’s aid, initially thinking that Mr Keogh was trying to break into the centre. Together, they helped to deliver the couple’s baby daughter, Eva Alexis.

Recalling the dramatic incident, Ms Keogh told the publication: “I screamed, ‘The baby is coming now’, and could feel her head a third of the way out. I told [Freddy] to catch the baby as it came out. He just managed to catch her and the umbilical cord.”

Thankfully, midwives inside the centre were alerted to the commotion outside, and they rushed to let the family in for treatment.

Mum and Baby are both said to be doing well after the ordeal.
