No matter how much it may gross you out, dogs can get worms and it is something that you will have to deal with it.

As there are so many different types of worms - tapeworms, heartworms, roundworms - only a vet will be able to actually determine what your dog has, but you should always keep an eye out for the following symptoms to ensure you catch it early.

1. Vomiting

Worms can actually cause your dog to vomit, and you may very well see the little creatures in their sick.

2. Diarrhoea

Just like they can cause vomiting, worms also cause your pet to suffer from diarrhoea. Again you will probably be able to spot the little white worms in their stools.

3. Less active

If your pet seems lethargic or is not as active as normal it may be a sign that they have worms.

4. Rubbing their bottom on the ground

Known as scooting, dogs tend to do this to get rid of the itch from the worms. However, it is also important to bear in mind that this is also a sign of problems with their anal glands.

5. Weight loss

A tapeworm can cause your pet to rapidly lose weight so keep a close eye on them, and take them to the vet if you are worried.
