Any birth can be a traumatic ordeal for the mum-to-be, but our hearts go out to anyone who endures such circumstances as these.

According to reports today, a woman in the US has given birth after going into labour in the backseat of a cab at the Lincoln Tunnel.

The woman had hailed a cab via Uber, a ride-hailing service, and was travelling to hospital when she began giving birth in the backseat of the car.

The cab’s shocked driver pulled the car over and parked at the entrance to the tunnel, managing to hail down two Port Authority officers and alert them to the emergency situation.

After informing the police officers that the woman simply “couldn’t wait” to have her baby, senior agent Greg Nimmo delivered the child in the backseat of the car.

The as yet unnamed woman gave birth to a daughter, and the pair were transported to a nearby hospital shortly after.

A similar incident occurred in Washington recently, when a couple of officers pulled over a female driver who was speeding. As it turned out, the woman was in labour, and the officers were in for a dramatic ordeal as they helped the new mum and her child.

Thank heavens everyone in this latest story was okay. Well done to Agent Nimmo!
