Most new mums struggle to figure out how to breastfeed correctly. It is important that you take the time to find the right advice and in doing so you can almost certainly get it right.

While you are in the hospital with your baby, ask your doctor, midwife or nurse to show you how to breastfeed correctly. Most hospitals will have at least one expert who can teach you what you should be doing. Some will have a lactation or breastfeeding coach too. When you get home, you can speak to friends, relatives and other people you know who have breastfed their children for advice on what you should be doing.

Another great idea is to find out where there is a breastfeeding support group, or La Leche League in your area. Both of these will give you access to other mums, and to experts who know exactly how to make breastfeeding work for new mums. Whatever you do though, do not give up. Breastfeeding can be a wonderful experience for you and your child, it’s cheaper and easier than formula, and it really is the best healthy start you can give your child.
