We’ve likely all been the victims of ‘parent guilt’ at some point or other, and it seems pop stars are no different.

Former Westlife star Brian McFadden has revealed his regret over ‘trying to buy his daughters’ affections’, to make up for living away.

In an interview for Loose Women’s ‘Boys of Summer’ edition, the 36-year-old admitted that his move to Australia back in 2004 created some bad habits with daughters Molly, 14, and Lilly-Sue, 13.

“I moved to Australia, and so I did spoil them more. It was almost like I was trying to buy their affections, but when they get older you can’t. They can smell it and play on it,” he said.

Indeed, once his daughters with Kerry Katona hit their teens, Brian soon began to regret his actions.

“The girls would start to regularly text me, and each time they were looking for something,” he recalled.

However, Brian revealed that he has since been able to nip to dangerous behaviour in the bud – by coming to a healthy compromise.

“If they want something substantial now for their birthdays, they have to earn half of the value and I’ll pay for the rest,” he explained.
