It has been revealed that the HSE are currently investigating the deaths of 30 infants in hospitals around the country.

Following the death of a number of babies at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaois, an investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding these deaths.

After examining and reviewing cases involving 80 infants from hospitals throughout the country, the HSE panel believed that 30 of these cases warranted further investigation.

This figure may increase as further cases and reviewed and examined.

This news comes following Leo Varadkar's Dail address last week when he discussed maternity services in Portiuncula Hospital.
