Tributes have been pouring in for 18-year-old Dublin teenager Ana Hicks following her untimely death in the country's capital this weekend.

The first year university student had been socialising with friends when she collapsed outside popular Dublin nightspot, The Twisted Pepper, on Saturday night.

According to Gardaí, Ana was rushed to hospital, but lost her fight for life yesterday evening in the Mater Hospital.

Tributes have flooded in for the much-loved teenager, with one devastated friend honouring the teenage girl's joie de vivre, saying: “Ana, I’m so incredibly lucky to have had the pleasure of knowing such a determined, ambitious, fun-loving girl.”

Paying tribute to the particularly close bond shared by Ana and her mother, a source close to the family said: “Ana was so close to her mother, Elga, they were like two peas in a pod. There are no words to sum up the grief people are feeling. It will take a long time before people can get over this.”

Commenting on the tragic incident, the nightclub, situated on Dublin’s Middle Abbey Street, took to social media, saying: “Everyone at the Twisted Pepper is deeply saddened and devastated at the news of the sad passing of Ana Hick. Our thoughts are prayers are with Ana’s family and friends at this tragic time.”

Reluctant to elaborate any further on the weekend’s incident at this point in time, they finished by saying: “We are working closely with the authorities and out of respect for Ana and her family we cannot comment any further at this time.”

The results of a postmortem examination have yet to be established, but earlier reports have suggested that the teenager may have fallen victim to contaminated ecstasy pills believed to be flooding the city's drug market.

However, despite these claims, the gardaí have asserted they have yet to find evidence of this supposed influx, saying: "While all illegal drugs are toxic potentially fatal, there is no evidence of contaminated drugs being sold on Ireland’s streets."

As it stands, the incident is being treated as a sudden death.

Our thoughts go out to all those affected by Ana's death at this devastating time.
