We’d all rather be spending quality time with our families, rather than be stuck in the kitchen for hours on end.

That’s why when it comes to keeping a tidy kitchen, the less we have to do, the better.

Here are some simple shortcuts that’ll cut down the time you spend in the kitchen, freeing you up to have fun with your precious brood instead.

Prevent clogged pipes
Dirt and soap deposits can cling to pipes, which can quickly form clogs. To keep everything free-flowing, pour boiling water down the drain three to four times a day. You can simply use the leftover water you boiled to make a cuppa.

Keep your fridge sparkling
You won't have to scrub grimy fridge shelves nowhere near as often, if you first line your shelves with clear plastic wrap after cleaning.

Freshen with vanilla
After you clean the oven, rub the racks with a natural deodoriser - vanilla. Simply add a few dabs of vanilla extract to a rag and wipe down the racks. Then, turn on the oven to release the lovely vanilla scent.

The stockings secret
Old stockings get a new use when called into duty as a duster for the tricky under-the-fridge area. Simply remove the grill, attach the stockings to a yardstick and then run it under the fridge.

Freezer trick
Magazine holders, turned on their sides, make great freezer ‘shelves’ to hold smaller items, such as ice lollies.
