Taking to Instagram to share the sad news with her legions of fans and followers, Canadian popstar, Avril Lavigne, announced that herself and musician husband, Chad Kroeger, have decided to separate.
Sharing a photo of herself and her husband during happier times, a clearly heartbroken Avril paid tribute to the relationship they shared and the times they spent together.
"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announced our separation today," she began the heartbreaking post.
Acknowledging this particular chapter in their lives, the 30-year-old Girlfriend singer continued: "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments."
In the upload, which has been liked over 80,000 times in mere hours, Avril insisted the end of the marriage did not signify the end of the couple's friendship.
Avril, who married the Nickelback frontman in July 2013, maintained there exists a strong bond based on mutual respect, and wrote: "We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends and will always care deeply for each other."
The separation signals the end of Avril's second marriage having divorced Sum 41 singer and guitarist, Deryck Wibley, in 2010 after a four years together.
