We have some very sad news to share this morning, as it has been reported that former New Zealand All Blacks rugby star Jerry Collins and his wife have died in a car crash.

Jerry and wife Alana Madill were travelling in Southern France with their three-month-old daughter Ayla, when their car reportedly collided with a bus.

According the initial report in French newspaper Midi Libre, the couple were killed instantly. Their daughter has been taken to Montpellier Hospital for treatment, and she is said to be in a critical condition.

Midi Libre reports that 34-year-old Collins stopped his car after experiencing unknown technical difficulties. The bus is believed to have crashed into the vehicle at around 4.30am local time.

Confirming the sad news, Collins’ agent Tim Castle said: “It is a travesty. Both Jerry and his partner have been killed. Their three-month-old baby is very badly injured. It is devastating for his family and everybody.”

In a heartbreaking social media post, Collins’ cousin Vincent Collins wrote: “In shock and disbelief after hearing of the passing of our beloved cousin Jerry Collins and his lovely wife. Wow! Did not see this coming…Don’t know what else to say but please pray for their three-month-old daughter as she is in critical condition.”

Our hearts go out to the family, and baby Ayla is in our prayers.
