The Deadpool actor admitted that he went through a ‘dark period’ just after his daughter’s birth, when he found out that one of his oldest friends was trying to sell photos of James to the press.
Opening up in an interview with GQ, the 38-year-old said: “A guy I’d known for my whole life, one of my closest friends growing up, he had been shopping pictures of my baby around.”
“I kind of got in front of it, which is good. But it was a slightly dark period; a bad couple of weeks,” he added.
Ryan, who has been married to his Green Lantern co-star Blake Lively since 2012, went on to recall his confrontation and “pretty strongly worded conversation” with the unnamed person, whom he then completely cut out of his life.
Reflecting on the upsetting incident, Ryan said: “It was like a death. It was like one of those devastating things to find out. I don’t think he thought he would ever be caught. But it’s a pretty narrow group of people that I would send photos like that to. They’re just, like, my closest family and my closest friends.”
