It has been a very sad week in the showbiz world, with the passing of legendary stars David Bowie and Alan Rickman, and yet another celebrity is in mourning today.

Singer Celine Dion took to her social media channels last night to confirm the passing of her husband, René Angelil. The 73-year-old, who was the singer’s manager, died after a long battle with throat cancer.

The My Heart Will Go On singer shared an official statement with the world via her website, confirming the tragic news.

“René Angelil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time,” the statement read.

The couple, who were married for 22 years, have three children together: 14-year-old René-Charlies, and five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy. René is also survived by his three children from a previous relationship: Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre.

Celine made no secret of her husband’s health battle, revealing last year how he told her he wanted to ‘die in her arms’.

Our thoughts are with Celine and the family at this very sad time.
