While she is most famous for her ‘90s hit song Stay, it wasn’t music that American singer Lisa Loeb chose to discuss with Oprah Winfrey this week.

The star, who is a mother-of-two, sat down with the chat show queen to discuss family and parenthood, and she had a very special message to send to aspiring mums.

Lisa – who married husband Roey Hershkowitz six years ago, and went on to have her first child at the age of 41 – shared her fresh perspective on starting a family this week.

The star, now 47 years old, said: “I hate to say it, because I want women to be able to do anything whenever they want, but if you want to have your own child, it’s something that you really do need to focus on – the sooner, the better.”

Lisa, who is mum to daughter Lyla and son Emmet added: “I’m really lucky that I was able to have two really healthy, beautiful children in my 40s. I have friends who are getting into their later 30s and they don’t have kids yet, but they want kids. I say, ‘Sometimes you need to make decisions about how you’re spending your time’.”

Lisa is the latest star to open up on being an older mother, with presenter and model Molly Sims, who recently welcomed her second child at the age of 41, admitting that she was cautious about sharing her news.

“I’m 41, so I had an ultrasound and blood tests to make sure everything was okay. We waited until we got the results at 14 weeks to tell anyone,” the mum-of-two said ahead of her daughter Scarlett’s birth.
