International football player, Harry Arter, has been lauded after the grieving father put on an incredible display of sportsmanship during a game against Manchester United this weekend.

The 25-year-old Bournemouth and Republic of Ireland player was praised by boss, Eddie Howe, who was initially reluctant to let Harry play following the death of his infant daughter at birth last week.

Speaking to the press, Eddie revealed that Harry, who began his career with Charlton Athletic in 2007, was adamant he wanted to take part in the game, saying: “Harry wanted to play, there was no doubt in his mind that he wanted to play.”

“I had to make an assessment of him, but there was no doubt once I’d spoken to him that I was going to play him today,” he explained following the high-profile match on Saturday.

Despite Harry’s stellar performance on the pitch, Eddie insisted that the football player needs the support and understanding of his teammates at this incredibly difficult time.

“He showed real strength to keep his emotions in check, and I’ve got to say his teammates rallied around him really well, “ Eddie asserted while reflecting on the weekend’s game.

Acknowledging the level of grief Harry and his partner are currently experiencing, 38-year-old Howe displayed a father-like compassion for the young football star and insisted that they will not have to endure their heartache alone.

“I’m really proud of him, but the pain for them won’t go away, so we’ll have to look after Harry, and our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.”

Bournemouth players sported black armbands throughout Saturday's game in honour of their teammate's devastating loss last Thursday.
