We have some sad news to share this morning, as it has been confirmed that boxing legend Muhammad Ali has passed away. He was 74 years old.

A spokesperson for the sporting icon’s family broke the news this morning, revealing that Ali died in hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, after being admitted for treatment on Thursday.

The former world heavyweight boxing champ had endured a high profile battle with Parkinson’s disease, and it’s reported that he was being treated for a respiratory illness this week.

Ali, real name Cassius Clay, is survived by his nine children: Laila, Rasheda, Hana, Asaad, Maryum, Jamillah, Khaliah, Muhammad Jr., and Miya.

Referred to as ‘the greatest’ in his sport, Ali leaves an incredible legacy behind as the first person to win the heavyweight boxing championship three times.

Tributes have been pouring in all morning, with daughter Hana leading the messages of praise for the sporting legend.

“Our father was a ‘Humble Mountain’! And now he has gone home to God. God bless you daddy. You are the love of my life!” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, former boxing star George Foreman wrote: “Ralph Ali, Frazier and Foreman – we were one guy. A part of me slipped away, ‘the greatest piece’.”

Our hearts go out to the family at this sad time.
