Our hearts go out to much-loved American magician and illusionist, Criss Angel, following the news his 20-month-old son has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The 47-year-old, whose real name is Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos, made the decision to  cancel his 'Believe' Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas in order to be with his family in Australia.

The New York native took to social media on Friday in order to inform fans and followers of his decision and included a tender shot of himself and his little boy, Johnny, in the post.

Sharing a shot of his son sleeping on his shoulder, Criss wrote: "In light of a family emergency the news I was going to announce this weekend will be postponed. Thank you xc"

Opening up about the star's 'personal family crisis', a Circue du Soleil colleague said: "For many years, Criss has championed and raised money for various children's charities here in Las Vegas, but he never thought it would hit this close to home."

The star took to Twitter earlier today in order to express his appreciation for the support that has been shown to him and his family since the tragic news broke.

Sharing a touching family picture, Criss wrote: "Shaunyl, Johnny and I can't thank u enough for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers and support #amazing." (sic)

Wishing the family all the best as they navigate this journey together, one fan wrote: "May all his treatment run its course without side effects. Lots of healthy healing thoughts and prayers to Johnny!"

We will keep Johnny and his family in our thoughts.
