Just three days after beloved entertainer Cilla Black passed away in Spain, her family has confirmed that she died of a stroke after falling and hitting her head.
The 72-year-old’s publicist released a statement today detailing the results of an autopsy.
“Cilla was sunbathing on her private terrace at her villa in Estepona, got up, lost her balance and fell, hitting her head, which knocked her unconscious, and she subsequently died of a stroke. She would not have suffered,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the former Blind Date star’s sons – Robert, Ben and Jack – added: “We are devastated by the sad loss of our mother, but have been deeply touched by all the kind messages of support from her friends, fans, the public and media.”
Adding that the tributes to Cilla have been helping them through this tragic time, they added: “The Spanish authorities have now told us we are able to bring Mum home, which we hope to do as quickly as possible.”
