When it comes to booking a holiday, one of the most expensive aspects is definitely buying flights. And considering they are a pretty significant part of your holiday, it is important you get as cheap a price as possible.

So, before you book this summer, take note of the following five tips and tricks to keeping your airfare as low as possible.

1. Be flexible

Unless you have to fly out or come home on a particular day try to be as flexible with your dates as possible - mid-week, early mornings and late nights are usually the cheapest time to fly.

2. Book on a Tuesday

When booking your flight wait until Tuesday before you click buy. Apparently, this is the day that airlines issue new seats and flights can be temporary cheaper.

3. Fly direct

Most parents would never consider booking otherwise, but if you fancied enjoying a few days stopover in another country be prepared for the extra cost.

4. Book direct

If possible, avoid going through a third party website when it comes to booking your flights. While they may look cheaper, they often add fees on the end that can hike the price up a lot.

5. Delete your cookies

When booking a flight many of us check a number of airlines before deciding on the best one. However, as you search you may notice the price slowly start to increase. To stop this happening, make sure you delete your cookies before you search a new site.
