It is expected that next week the cabinet will approve a report asking for medical cards to be provided to 10,000 disabled children who are already entitled to the domiciliary care allowance.

Minister for Health Simon Harris is due to submit the report on Tuesday which will explain the costs of the purposed plans.

The plan is said to cost roughly €10m a year according to the Department of Health.

The department also want to reassure many who worry they won’t be entitled to a free medical card, and say that any child already entitled to the domiciliary care allowance will fall under the new scheme.
