12 Quick Snacks for Kids

30-second quesadillas
All you need is cheese, a tortilla and some tomato (or tomato paste). Microwave for 30 seconds for a hot snack that kids will love. Full recipe is here
Crackers with chocolate spread and banana
This is a very simple, very tasty snack that all children will love. Spread a thin layer of chocolate spread over a cream cracker and top with banana slices.
Apple slices with peanut butter
Cut an apple (green or red) into slices and serve to your child with a portion of peanut butter. Perfect snack for when they come in from school.
Frozen Banana Bites
These should be made in advance for those moments your child is craving a snack. Click here for the full recipe.
Homemade ice pops
This is the perfect way to use up over-ripened fruit. Chop and blend whatever fruit you have to use. Stir plain yoghurt into the mixture (mixture should be half yoghut, half fruit) and fill ice pop containers. Freeze.
Flavoured popcorn
Pop some popcorn either in a saucepan or in the microwave. Add a few tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkle with your choice of seasoning. We recommend sugar & cinnamon, chilli powder & lemon juice and garlic powder & parmesan.
Snow Toast
This is modern (and healthier) version of the sugar sandwiches your mum used to make when you wanted a snack. Butter a piece of wholegrain toast, sieve some icing sugar over top and grill for a minute or two. Add another light layer of icing sugar.
Toast with cream cheese and strawberries
It may sound like an odd combination but it works really well. Toast some wholegrain bread or a multigrain roll. Spread with a layer of cream cheese and top off with some sliced strawberries. Quick, interesting and yummy. Click here for a slightly fancier version of the snack.
Cheese and crackers
This is a classic combination - cheese, crackers, simple.
Yoghurt topped with fruit and granola
Top a bowl of plain yoghurt with berries or chopped fruit. Add some granola or muesli if you have it.
Smoothies
Smoothies are a great choice of snack for kids because they can be made to suit any taste preference. We recommend an Almond & Berry Smoothie or a Mango Madness Smoothie.
Veggies and hummus
Slice carrots, celery and peppers into sticks and serve with your child's favourite hummus.
