If you’re a mum-to-be, you’ll know that ticking off a list of essentials before you’ve even met baby is all part of the, um, fun?
But in between making sure you’ve found the safest car seat on the market, a pram that’s going to fit into your hallway, and a non-toxic air freshener so the bathroom doesn’t smell like poop 24/7, some important must-haves can get lost in the noise:
1. Two strollers
Yes, two strollers might seem like a tad indulgent, but trust us, it’ll make your life a whole lot easier. You won’t always want or need to bring your heavier stroller with you, so it’s handy to have a cheap, lightweight collapsible one to hand too.
2. A chic changing bag
Sure, you know you’ll need a changing bag BUT we advise you get one that will not only be functional but pretty too. Well, it is in effect going be your handbag – and for quite some time! We suggest choosing a classic neutral colour like grey, black or fawn dah-ling.
3. A baby book
While we’re sorting out all the practical stuff like cots and Moses baskets and the like it can be easy to forget one of the most important things – a place to record your baby’s milestones. A diary, scrapbook or dedicated baby book is essential to capture those precious memories and mementoes as your baby grows quickly, oh so quickly, too quickly.
4. Nipple cream
If you’re breastfeeding, expect your nipples to get a little (or a lot!) sore, cracked or chapped. You will NOT regret having a tube of nipple cream to hand just in case!
5. A changing pad
Sometimes baby changing areas can be a bit, well, grubby. This is where a portable changing pad swoops in to save the day. They’re inexpensive, don’t take up too much space in our (chic obvs) bags and best of will prevent us from panicking about nasty germs.
6. A serious laundry detergent
You will spend more time taking long trips to the laundry room than out and about with the actual pram. There is a lot of dribbling, spit-up and a word of warning - poop explosions are not just a myth. Be baby ready with a really trusted brand (we love Fairy Non Bio because it is super soft on sensitive skin and keeps baby's clothes really soft as well as clean)
7. Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a new mum’s WONDER product. It’s natural, inexpensive and can be rubbed on cracked nipples, cradle cap, stretch marks, eczema and sore bums.
8. Big comfy knickers
Stock up on some comfy, cosy Bridget Jones undies for after the birth. Just trust us, you’ll be VERY glad you did.
You've got this, mamas.
