8 of the safest countries to travel to with children for your next holiday

Planning a trip with your children is a wonderful idea as you all get to enjoy a break away from the ordinary day-to-day of life while also getting to experience new cultures of different countries.

Holidays are a great way to explore new sites, take part in new activities and try new foods, but a lot of the time it can be hard to know where to go with your little ones due to concerns over the safety of other countries.

Oftentimes the fear of tourists being targets for pick-pocketing or the worry of a rowdy area more suited to party-goers can put families off going abroad, but this shouldn’t be the case.

If you’re planning on going on holidays with your children, but are not sure which countries are considered the safest, we’re here to help. We’ve found 8 of the safest countries that are suitable to bring children to according to the Global Peace Index. Check them out below and get your suitcase packed!

Iceland

We had to put Iceland on the top of our list because it is considered the top safest country in the world. With very little crime activity, Iceland is the perfect family holiday destination. This beautiful country is full of gorgeous natural sights and there is no end to the activities you can take part in as a family, from geothermal pools, whale watching and chasing the Northern Lights. Natives to Iceland believe their country to be so safe, they give their children much more freedom than other countries.

New Zealand

New Zealand is now 2nd on the Global Peace Index as it also has very low crime rates or threats of violence from other countries. If you and your family would like to explore the outdoors with little fear of spiders or snakes compared to the country’s neighbour, Australia, this stunning island is the place for you. With no extreme weather issues, there is no reason not to travel here- just prepare yourself and your children for the long flight.

Austria

Austria sits at 5th place for the world’s most peaceful countries. If you’re not too worried about feeling the cold or would rather keep your children out of the sun, Austria is a great option with lots of child-friendly activities. Austria has low crime issues with moderate security and policing so there is no need to worry about big issues of crime when you visit.

Portugal

If you’re looking for a warm destination to jet off to, Portugal is a great option. Coming in at 6th place on the GPI, Portugal is the perfect sunny and safe holiday location. If you’re looking to chill on the beach or have fun at a waterpark, pick here, as the country has low crime rates with high security to match.

Czech Republic

A colder climate with great overall security. Sitting at 8th place on the list of the most peaceful countries in the world, the Czech Republic is one to consider. With historical cities and great landscapes, this is a great country for families that like to explore rather than relax by a pool.

Singapore

Looking for a faraway destination with no extreme worry of robbery or violence? Then add Singapore to your travel list. Number 9 on the Global Peace Index, Singapore has low criminality, with lots of wonderful things for families. Even though it is far away, if you’re looking to splurge on a family trip, Singapore has a wondrous and futuristic feel that will be amazing for the whole family to experience.

Canada

Another longhaul flight will be needed if you fancy visiting Canada. Considered the 12th most peaceful country in the world, Canada is a lovely holiday destination, especially if you don’t want to worry about a language barrier. With a good ratio of policing to criminality, Canada doesn’t pose the same potential worry as its neighbour the United States does at 129th on list.

Germany

With a lighter level of crime compared to secrurity, you’re sure to feel safe in Germany. From delicious food to beautiful sites, Germany is ideal for family trips. Wonderful all year round, but Germany, coming in at 16th on the Global Peace Index, is magical at Christmas time in particular.
