Anyone who has gone through fertility struggles will know exactly how heart-breaking, exhausting and downright life-changing it can be.
The IVF process can be draining, which is why we are so touched by one loving husband’s sweet gesture to his wife.
Known only as D.Pipe, this husband took to Love What Matters to share a video of the moment he surprised his wife, Kate, with a trip to Disney World in Florida.
Describing Kate as his ‘inspiration’, D explained how the couple spent 2011 and 2012 struggling to get, and stay pregnant.
“We went through test after test without getting much of an answer on why. We suffered through a couple of rough patches, losing two pregnancies and throughout the entire process, she was positive and never complained,” he wrote.
“She used to get up at 5am and drive 90 minutes each way to a clinic in downtown Toronto and be there, get blood drawn, do some testing, and be back at work before 9am – and nobody at her workplace had any idea. She did this between 10 – 15 times per month, for months and months.”
D and Kate eventually got pregnant with triplets, and were delighted to welcome three beautiful and healthy babies into the world eight months later. D is still in awe of what Kate achieved during and after her pregnancy.
“There are a tonne of risks with triplets, and she put her body through it all during the process,” he added.
“Aside from the common pregnancy stuff, she carried them for 32-and-a-half weeks, gained about 100 pounds…and since then has been the best mum I could ever hope to have for my kids.”
While D acknowledges that Kate deserves ‘way more than a trip to Disney World’, it was a gesture that he knew she would appreciate and relish.
D went to great lengths to pull off the surprise for Kate – he contacted her boss and co-workers to ensure the dates worked, then he packed her bags and hid them in the boot of the car.
Kate initially thought that the couple were heading for dinner and a show, so she was blown away when D revealed the truth – as you can see in his heart-warming video.
“It was the first break we had in over two years where we could get a full night’s sleep – an amazing trip, a very well-deserved getaway for her, and a nice time for us to recharge a little after the initial craziness that is newborn triplets,” D wrote.
As you can imagine, people all over the world are loving the video. While most people are just heart-warmed by the gesture and Kate’s tears, others can’t help but laugh over the new mum’s query as to whether she has enough outfits for the trip!
