How many times have fathers come forward and lamented over the fact that they couldn’t change their babies in a public men’s room?

The answer is probably ‘too many to count’ – but that is all about to change for fathers living in the US.

President Barack Obama has been praised for introducing a new law which requires both male and female toilets in public buildings to be fitted with baby-changing stations.

Under the Bathrooms Accessible in Every Situation Act, or BABIES Act, baby-changing facilities must be installed in at least one male and female toilet on every floor of relevant buildings.

The Act, which is set to be completely rolled out within two years, will be introduced in those buildings deemed ‘physically safe, sanitary, and appropriate’.

Congressman David Cicilline, who campaigned for the original Bill, has welcomed the move by President Obama.

“Federal buildings are paid for by taxpayers and it’s important to ensure that they are as open, as accessible, and as family-friendly as possible,” Sen. Cicilline said, in a statement.

He added: "I thank President Obama for moving swiftly to sign this common-sense proposal into law.”
