When the final bell sounds to signal the end of our secondary school education, it appears we not only leave behind our teachers, but also a staggering amount of information which they attempted to communicate over the course of our academic career.
According to a YouGov survey which was commissioned by Oxford Open Learning, an inordinate number of adults have forgotten key principals in a number of subjects
Offering an insight into the results of the study which surveyed 2,000 adults, The Independent reports that 34% of participants did not know what an 'oxymoron' was, 24% could not remember what a 'simile' was and another 20% were unable to explain what is meant by a 'metaphor'.
And it wasn't just English that was causing problems among participants as a staggering number of adults found themselves baffled by well-known Maths and Science terms.
Findings indicated that 41% of those surveyed were unable to explain the term 'mitosis' and 21% had forgotten what 'photosynthesis' meant while 35%could no longer calculate the 'mode' in a sequence of numbers while the 'median' and the 'mean' left 31% and 28% absolutely baffled.
How do you think you would have fared in that survey?!
