Hi there, its good to look for products that have what we call active ingredients which are actively helping the skin condition. To alleviate this dryness, I would recommend Lipikar Baume AP it has 20% pure shea butter, glycerine and canola oil which help to rebuild the hyrdrolipids in the skin which are missing in skin with eczema. This product also contains niacinamide which has been clinically proven to stop the itch scratch cycle seen in eczema. I would therefore recommend Lipikar AP together with a suitable wash Lipikar syndet is soap free lanolin free and fragrance free which is also very important to protect this fragile skin.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hello there, It can often be trial and error with emollient therapy finding out the one that is really the best and the best tolerated is extremely important. In this case its good to try another to see which he responds best to. If anything is stinging the skin it would be wise to discontinue that particular cream. Perhaps you could try him on Lipikar Baume AP its a once daily application so saves having to put on an emollients a couple of times a day also its fragrance free, paraban free so especially designed for the super sensitive skin. It would also be prudent to see your GP to see if you could get him on a short course of topical steroids which might calm things down in a few days. As I mentioned before even when the eczema flare up has cleared maintain the emlloient routine so as to prevent further flare up.

I always use La Roche Posay products myself as I have sensitive skin. Looks like my daughter is following suit! Thanking you in advance.

Hi Lukzar I would recommend Cicaplst Baume B5 here for your infants cheeks. This all round product encourages epidermal repair and is also suitable for infants . Like all of the LRP products is for super sensitive skin. Very best of luck would love to hear how you get on.

Hi Lena, I would recommend Lipikar Baume AP daily on her skin to replace lipids that she is missing and prevent flare ups. Also you can wash her in Lipikar syndet which is soap free, fragrance free wash which will also restore lipids and comfort to her skin.

any better as he gets older.

I would recommend cleansing with syndet and not using anything that contains oil or is comodogenic (ie blocks pores) on your childs skin. I would recommend simply a gentle wash and applying La Roch-Posay thermal water. If it is persistant I would consult your GP.

Hi Aifs I would recommend if he is in flare up to definitely go to the GP who will recommend a steroid cream this should clear it up for him while he is in flare up stage. Our creams are called active - the Lipikar Baume that you are using can be used alone or as an ajunct to whatever your GP or Dermatologist recommends. Remember even after the eczema has cleared it is important to use these emmoilinets everyday as children which eczema are lacking in their own natural skin lipids and thus have a weakend defence without this emolient therapy.

He has mild cradlecap which isn't budging no matter what I put on him. He skin also came out in a very dry and irritated rash as a reaction to penicillin. Any suggestions?

Vichy Nutrilogy is a fine product for dry skin with great active ingredients however if you are atopic and more of an exzematous type of skin perhaps try the Lipikar Baume AP as it might have the edge here for severly dry skin. Also try the syndet wash on your child as it might help to lift that cradle cap as gently as possible. Let me know how you get on

Hello there, conservatively I would recommend using Effaclar wash by La Roche-Posay which has a mild keratolyic action i.e increases skin cell turnover on the superficial layers which might be of assistance here. I would also need to ask if her skin is generally oily. If so I would recommend Effaclar Duo which is a daily mosituriser that works on both inflammatory and retentional type pimples. You can get samples of these in your pharmacy. I hope this does the trick. Would love to hear how you get on.

Hi Britney, Yes you have to mind your hands! So when you can, use alcohol free wipes and also use your gloves when using detergents. Detergents are particularly damaging to the skin and can strip away the natural lipids in the skin aswell as causing contact allergies. To put you back on the right track I would recommend Lipikar Xerand. Apply this twice a day until your hand are back to normal and then once a day as required.

Hello there, Yes there are a number of things that can trigger eczema it is usually when contact allegens and/or bacteria break through the dry skin and causes itching. Which triggers a vicious cycle of itching. The child then scratches the skin an infammatory reaction occors and through further scratching bacteria can get into the skin making the whole situation alot worse. A flare up can also happen when the child has some other illness chest infection etc or when the child is generally run down. However the golden rule is prevention. In children with eczema the natural skin barrier does not function as it does in normal skin. Irritants can breach the skin causing intense irratation and flare up. To prevent this even when the child is well you must use emmolients every single day. This replaces lipids that create a barrier that the childs skin does not have and helps the skin function normally. Another key thing to remember with children with eczema is to never use soap as this strips away this valauable lipids in the skin. I recommend using Lipikar Baume AP as the daily emollient and lipikar syndet and the wash which will also help to rebuild lipids your childs skin.

I am using E45 right now, and it seems to work a small bit (better than the others) but has not cleared it up completely. It isn't flaky, just really dry. I have looked up cradle cap, but it doesn't seem to match my description. When he is angry, he scratches his forehead, causing it to bleed at times from being so dry. Any advise, thanks

Hi there, Yes this sounds like the start of eczema which usually presents first on the face in infants. I would suggest an emolllient here, Lipikar Baume AP and to keep to a good routine using a soap free wash specifically designed for paediatric dry skin. Syndet by La Roche-Posay is a good choice as is the lipikar bath oil which can be added to bath water to nettralise pH and promote skin comfort.
