Yesterday, we reported on the shocking story of a baby who was rescued from a rubbish container in Spain, in the village of Mejorada del Campo.

Just a day after the newborn was rescued by two members of the Spanish Civil Guard, it has been reported that the child’s mother has been located and arrested.

According to reports in Spanish media this afternoon, police were able to identify the woman thanks to the baby bottle she left beside the child. They were able to link the brand of the bottle to those used by the local Alcala de Henares hospital, and from there the mother was identified.

The 37-year-old Colombian woman is said to be a mother-of-three, and lives close by to where she left the child.

Although she initially denied abandoning her child in the rubbish container, she later confessed to police officers.

While police have not yet determined the motivation behind the woman’s actions, her three other children are now in the care of the father, who authorities believe had no involvement in the abandonment.
