After months of intense speculation and media scrutiny, former Olympic medallist and reality star Bruce Jenner confirmed his gender transition during an interview with Diane Sawyer this weekend.

The 65-year-old, who has six children from three relationships, gave an emotional insight into his experience and his plans for the future during the 20/20 special.

He told Sawyer: “For all intents and purposes, I am a woman. My brain is much more female than it is male. That’s what my soul is. Bruce lives a lie. ‘She’ is not a lie. I can’t do it anymore.”

While he admitted that he is excited about the future, Bruce did reveal that he has been worried about how the news and media coverage will affect his family, especially his children.

He need not have been so apprehensive however, as his children took to their social media accounts to tweet their love and pride after the interview aired.

Youngest daughter Kylie referred to Bruce as her ‘hero’, tweeting: “Understandingly, this has been very hard for me. You will hear what I have to say when I’m ready to but…this isn’t about me. I’m so proud of you, Dad. You are so brave. My beautiful Hero.”

Meanwhile, Bruce's model daughter Kendall also sent her love, telling her dad that she was ‘proud’ of him.

Son Brandon, who has often featured on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, posted a black-and-white photo of the pair to Instagram, with the caption simply reading: “Proud son.”
