Depression is a serious mental health illness that unfortunately doesn’t get the recognition that it so needs. Often when it comes to your health, talking about how you are feeling and what is going on in your head always seems to be pushed back under the carpet as something that no one wants to talk about.

 

No one is immune from it and the following celebrities have battled with depression at some point in their life.

 

Demi Lovato

The singer revealed that she is bipolar and suffered from anorexia and bulimia before checking herself into a clinic that treats emotional and physical issues. The 22-year-old has managed to get her life back on track and is an advocate for mental illnesses.

 

Catherine Zeta-Jones

The Welsh actress decided to go public about her bipolar II disorder, which causes severe depression, to helps others.

 

Gwyneth Paltrow

The mum-of-two suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her second child, Moses. Admitting she “felt like a zombie” the actress didn’t realise that “there are different shades and depths [to] it”.

 

Princess Diana

The late Princess Diana suffered from an eating disorder and feelings of loneliness, and following the birth of her two children she experienced postpartum depression.

 

Winona Ryder

Following her split from actor Johnny Depp, the American actress, who was 19 at the time, suffered from panic attacks and depression and began abusing alcohol. She sought help in an institution and with a private therapist.
