The heartbroken parents of Charlie Gard are reportedly set to meet with experts from Great Ormond Street Hospital, to discuss the next step in his care.

The latest update comes just a day after the European Court of Human Rights ruled that it would not intervene in the 10-month-old’s case.

Charlie was born with a rare genetic condition affecting his brain and other organs. Medical experts at the hospital, where he is receiving treatment, claim that he will have no quality of life if kept on life support.

Charlie’s parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, argue the opposite, however. They claim that their beloved son has shown signs of being responsive, and have shared photos across social media to prove this.

Connie and Chris heard about an experimental treatment in the US that could potentially help Charlie, and launched a fundraising campaign to give him this second chance.

The British courts ruled in favour of the hospital experts at every turn and ordered for life support to be withdrawn, to allow Charlie to ‘die with dignity’.

Connie and Chris fought the system at every turn, but yesterday’s rejected appeal formed the last strand of their legal battle.

Now, Connie and Chris are reportedly getting ready to meet with the hospital experts, to talk about what will happen next with little Charlie.

A representative for the hospital issued a statement yesterday, following the court ruling, insisting that there would be ‘no rush’ to switch off his life support.

“Our thoughts are with Charlie’s parents. The decision by the European Court of Human Rights marks the end of what has been a very difficult process, and our priority is to provide every possible support to Charlie’s parents as we prepare for the next steps,” said the rep.

“There will be no rush by Great Ormond Street Hospital to change Charlie’s care and any future treatment plans will involve careful planning and discussion.”

While neither Connor nor Chris have passed comment on yesterday’s outcome, loved one Toni Frost shared a message on the ‘Charlie’s Fight’ Instagram.

“Will update with any further info as and when we get it. I’m sure you all have questions, but we are unable to answer them at this present time.

“Thank you all for your support.”

We’re thinking of Charlie and his parents at this incredibly difficult time.
