Delicious and versatile, cheese gets its wonderful flavour from the lush, green pastures of our farmlands. In Ireland, we are lucky to have a wonderful range of quality, fresh cheese to choose from. Cheese is wonderfully versatile – as a standalone snack, served on a cheeseboard or as an ingredient in a range of delicious dishes.

Sometimes life can be hectic and we may just need a little inspiration to create tempting meals for all the family that are an instant hit!

Cheese Up Your Life! ambassador and former Olympic athlete, Derval O’Rourke, has written a range of cheesy recipes for the National Dairy Council which are available in their new recipe booklet. From breakfast to dinner, these recipes demonstrate how easily cheese can be incorporated into our daily lives. Derval is passionate about active living and healthy eating and these recipes are ideal for those who enjoy creating delicious meals but who have limited time on their hands.

Cheese is part of the ‘milk, yogurt and cheese’ food group in the Department of Health’s Food Pyramid. Three servings are recommended per day from this food group, with five daily servings recommended for those aged 9-18 years. Examples of a serving include 200ml of milk, 125ml of yogurt or 25g of cheddar cheese. Cheddar cheese provides many important nutrients such as calcium, protein, phosphorous and vitamin B12.

We hope that you and your family will take inspiration from these recipes and enjoy the wonderful selection of cheese available to us.
