Chrissy Teigen was embarrassed to be suffering from postnatal depression

Chrissy Teigen has opened up about the 'embarrassment' she felt while suffering from postnatal depression following the birth of her first child, Luna.

The Lip Sync Battle host and model got candid about how ashamed she was because she had her husband and mum there helping her.

The star is married to singer John Legend, and admitted to being prescribed Lexapro for depression as a teenager but didn't take the mental health condition seriously.

“John was great and helpful. My mom was here... I was embarrassed,” she said, during an interview with Porter

The 33-year-old has often been open about her struggles with the condition, telling Net-A-Porter’s weekly digital magazine PorterEdit: “I felt bad because we had so many resources."

She also spoke about how she stopped taking her medication as a teenager, “I just quit cold turkey, not thinking it was a real thing. I thought everyone had problems like mine, like it was part of life.”

“I thought everyone had problems like mine, like it was part of life,” she said.

Her depressive symptoms returned years later, when she became a mum. Teigen suffered from unexplained aches and pains, fatigue and a loss of appetite.

The social media darling credits medication and a decent work-life balance for helping her to get through the tough time, saying: “I’m obviously medicated.” Cooking also helps her to de-stress.

Teigen has received plenty of negative vitriol in her day, despite her social media presence. She admitted she still gets upset by reading hurtful comments online about herself.

“It's funny when everyone thinks you're so tough and things just roll off your back and you don't care. It's good to care,” she said. “I think you should want to be a respected, liked person. And it sucks when people don't like you.”

She has also been praised for her open commentary about her fluctuating weight gain since giving birth to her son, Miles.
