Anyone who has ever gotten engaged is likely to remember the stress that went along with planning the upcoming wedding ceremony.

Even when you and your partner are on the same page when it comes to venues, flowers and guests, the preparation process can be incredibly exhausting.

So what happens when a couple can't even agree on a venue?

One couple, who were due to tie the knot in the not-too-distant future but simply could not agree on the type of ceremony they wanted, taught us all a lesson in compromise this weekend.

Stephanie Reinhart, who wanted get married in City Hall, and her fiancé Mark Jockel, who wanted a lavish family ceremony, agreed to put their differences aside and become man and wife while competing in Chicago's famous marathon on Sunday.

During the 26 mile Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Stephanie and Mark paused at mile eight in order to become husband and wife.

Having met during the city's 2013 marathon, the decision held a certain significance, but Mark admits he wasn't too enamoured by the notion at the beginning, saying: "It took me a day or two to come around to the idea."

He reveals he had a change of heart as he discussed the idea with friends and family, saying: "But everyone I talked to about it was like, ‘That’s the most incredible thing I’ve ever heard. You’ve got to do it!"

After a four-minute ceremony almost one-third of the way into the marathon, the newly-married couple surged on and completed the final 18 miles as husband and wife.

In an effort to mark the couple's special day, race officials presented Stephanie and Mark with bibs which read 'Bride' and 'Groom' - something the couple wore with pride as they posed for photos in front of delighted family and friends.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!
