There have been some truly amazing baby gender reveals in recent times, and whether they are in the form of photos or videos, they always cheer us right up.

One couple, however, have split opinion online after using a rifle as part of their gender reveal.

Jamie Indiveri and her army officer fiancé Keith Batchelder are currently expecting their first child together and, like many other couples, they wanted to find out their little one’s sex in a unique and special way.

In the end, they got a friend to go to the hospital and pick up the envelope containing their baby’s gender. They then took a labelled box full of tannerite and chalk dust in the shade matching the baby’s gender (pink or blue).

On the day, the couple laid out a blanket in a secluded area and, with photographer Anna Elizabeth snapping photos, dad-to-be Keith fired a single shot from a rifle to hit the box. As soon as the bullet hit the box, a cloud of blue chalk dust erupted into the air – it’s going to be a boy!

Once uploaded to the Anna Elizabeth Photography Facebook page, the photos went viral – but not everybody is a fan of the idea.

“That’s messed up, how he’s shooting the gun. What a horrible ‘father’ thing to do, shoot a gun like that right in front of your unborn...You can just open it,” wrote one unimpressed Facebook user.

Others, meanwhile, thought it was one of the best gender reveals they have ever seen, with one woman commenting: “This is sooooo awesome! I'm always looking for cute gender reveal ideas and this was done beautifully.”

What do you think of the photos?
