When you already have a large family, and you have your heart set on the next little tot being a particular gender, the big reveal can be a little bit overwhelming.
One person who can certainly attest to this is Julio Pena, a New York father who has become a viral internet sensation after fainting when he discovered that – after four daughters – he was finally going to have a son.
Julio and wife Kari got their doctor to write the gender of their baby onto a piece of paper and put it in a sealed envelope. They then gave it to eldest daughter Chastity, and asked the 16-year-old to bring it to a bakery and get the appropriate pink or blue cake filling for their gender reveal party.
In footage from the celebrations, excitement is high as Kari and Julio cut into the cake to find blue icing, and the mum-to-be proceeds to jump up and down, shouting “It’s a boy! It’s a boy!”
Poor Julio, however, is so overwhelmed at the prospect of welcoming his much-longed-for son that he faints!
The footage shows Kari and family members rushing to Julio’s aid after he collapses to the floor, checking to see that he is okay.
Speaking to local media after the footage went viral, Julio said: “It was like I collapsed and fainted at the same time…I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, for a boy…I was in shock.”
