Doctors in Quebec City, Canada managed to save the life of an unborn child yesterday, after its pregnant mother died in a tragic road accident.
According to local news outlet CBC News, 27-year-old Marie-Pierre Gagné was at a pedestrian crossing when she was struck by a car, which proceeded to crash into two other vehicles.
The incident happened close by to the Centre Mere-Enfant Soleil Hospital, and a medical team was dispatched immediately to treat the mum-to-be and her child.
Sadly, the young woman could not be saved, however doctors managed to safely deliver the child, who is said to now be stable.
According to a crowdfunding page set up by friends of Ms Gagné’s family, she was 40 weeks pregnant.

Sources are speculating that the driver, a 20-year-old male, may have been taken ill when the accident occurred. He was brought to hospital, alongside a second driver who is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Our hearts go out to Ms Gagné’s family and loved ones at this devastating time.
