An unidentified group of doctors have been shamed online for taking a selfie with a newborn baby they had just delivered.

The photo, uploaded to Facebook by user Ramon Villegas, shows two surgeons posing over the operating table while a third holds the baby up for the camera.

It is believed that the image was captured in the delivery room of a general hospital in Calpulalpan, Mexico.

Sharing the image on the social media site, Villegas ranted: “How professional! Whilst one worries about their wife and new baby, hospital professionals without ethics in the hospital of Calulalpan.”

It is not yet known what Villegas’ connection with the doctors or the hospital is, but he went on to urge those offended by the photo to share it, in an effort to identify and punish the doctors accordingly.

While most people appear to agree with Villegas and have criticised the doctors’ ill-thought-out move, others are looking at the photo as a symbol of the doctors’ pride in their work.

“I wouldn’t punish [them] if Mum is okay. Moment of birth only comes once,” wrote on Twitter user, who suggested that the doctors were merely capturing a ‘piece of history’.
