Double child benefit payment to be paid to 638,000 families today

Today, Tuesday November 1, around 638,000 families across Ireland will receive a double child benefit payment to help ease the cost of living crisis.

Families normally receive a monthly payment €140 per child, but now will receive €280 for the month of November. The double child benefit payment will be received into people’s bank accounts from today.

Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys TD, announced that the double payment will help around 1.2 million children in Ireland.

When visiting Ballyroan Community and Youth Centre in Rathfarnham, South Dublin, Humphreys explained, “I’m very pleased to announce that 638,000 families will receive a Double Child Benefit Payment this week to support them with the cost of living”.

“This means that €280 will be paid in respect of 1.2 million children across the State. Child Benefit is an extremely important income support that reaches hundreds of thousands of hardworking families”.

“As Minister, I’m deeply conscious of the difficulties families are facing right now in meeting their bills. This double payment is one of eight lump sum payments that I secured as part of the Budget to help households during this extremely challenging period”.

The counties with the largest number of families that receive this payment are Dublin with 170,191 families, Cork with 70,822 and Kildare with 33, 830.

Counties with the lowest number of families that receive child benefit are Leitirm with 4,287 and Longford with 5,782.

The Minister also mentioned other upcoming lump sum payments that will be paid to support families over the next few weeks.

They include the €400 lump sum fuel allowance, €200 payment for people that live alone, €500 for carers, €500 for people with disabilities and €500 payment for those who receive the Working Family Payment.

Heather said more details about these payments will be given over the upcoming weeks.
