The country was left heartbroken following the news of Emma Hannigan's passing this weekend.

Her husband has bravely paid tribute to the wonderful author. Taking to Emma’s official Facebook page, her husband Cian wrote, “Today, my Emma found peace. She bravely fought a battle against a foe with no mercy.”

He praised his wife, “Emma was the epitome of strength, love and generosity, beyond anything I have ever known.”

Cian shared that Emma was full of love and warmth, “She loved her family, loved her friends, and she left a trail of glitter and joy throughout her life… with of course added tinsel at Christmas.”

We may have known Emma as the talented author and courageous campaigner, but she was more than that.

“She was my wife and soul mate. Mother of my beautiful children. A friend to many and an inspiration to thousands.”

Cian described Emma as a loving daughter, devoted mother, best selling author, fundraiser public speaker, chef and shopaholic.

“She was my guiding star and my hug to say everything would be ok,” he shared.

He ended the beautiful tribute with the most touching words, “But mostly she was just my Emma, and I would need her wonderful gift with words to tell you just how much I will miss her.”

President Michael D.Higgins extended his deepest sympathies to Emma’s husband and their two children Sacha and Kim.

He stated, “ Emma Hannigan leaves a lasting legacy not only through her work as a much-appreciated author but also through her exemplary courage in dealing with terminal illness”

“To her husband Cian, her son Sacha and daughter Kim, and to her wider family and circle of friends, Sabina and I send our deepest sympathies,” he added.

The women of the writing world paid tribute to their fellow author. Patricia Scanlon wrote, “Rest in Peace dear, lovely, brave, inspiring Emma.”

Louise O’Neill tweeted, “I never met Emma Hannigan but the tributes to her, both as a person and to her charity work, are incredibly moving. It sounds like she was a very special woman.”

“She was a very special woman who gave so much of herself and brought a lot of joy. Thinking of Emma Hannigan ’s family and friends tonight,” Roisin Ingle shared.

Claudia Caroll wrote, “Heartbroken to hear the sad news about our beautiful, brave Emma Hannigan. Tonight, there really is one more angel in Heaven.”

Hazel Gaynor added, “Devastating news. Emma was a shining light, and an inspiration to so many. Rest in peace, beautiful lady.”

Our thoughts are with Emma’s family and friends during this heartbreaking time. She will live on between the pages of her wonderful stories.
