Taking baby for their first proper day out is definitely an event to put into their memory books. And while you might find it a little stressful, getting everyone ready and out the door at a reasonable hour, it will be fun. We promise.

Be realistic

Neither you nor your baby is going to be able for anything too strenuous, so keep outings to about an hour or two. A lunch date with your other half or a catch up with the girls is more than enough for you to have a good time but not feel too tired.

Practice using the baby equipment

Make sure you practice getting the buggy up and down or the car seat in and out before you go anywhere. Dealing with a tricky buggy and a newborn at the same time is going to be tough.

Give yourself plenty of time

Before your baby arrives you probably could have gotten ready in ten minutes, but now it will take a little longer. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get out otherwise you will be feel unnecessary stress and you won’t enjoy the experience.

Prepare for the amount of stuff you’ll need to bring

Newborn babies might be small but they need a lot of stuff just to get through the day. You will need to bring nappies, wipes, creams, change of clothes, blankets and bibs so be prepared to lug around a pretty packed baby bag.

Bring someone with you

Try to bring someone with you when you do go out. While you are more than capable of looking after your little one by yourself, you’ll need someone to go get the coffees, mind baby while you go to the toilet or even just to talk to.

Dress baby appropriately

If you are going for a walk and it’s cold outside, you will need to wrap your little one up well and put a blanket on them while they are in the buggy. However, if you are going in the car and won’t be outside too long your infant won’t need to be wrap up as much.

Enjoy yourself

Above all else make sure you enjoy and take lots of pictures to remember the day.
