Singer Rod Stewart is father to eight children, two of which he has with his wife Penny Lancaster, but it seems he had to sacrifice a few things when the couple were trying for a second baby.

Talking to the ladies on ITV’s Loose Women, model Penny, who is mum to the star's two boys - Aidan and Alastair - revealed that their doctor had one sound piece of advice when they were experiencing trouble conceiving.

Opening up on the show, the mum-of-two said: "When Rod and I were trying to make our second child we were having a few troubles and a doctor said, 'Rod, you've got to forget wearing the tight pants and the trousers, okay? Get rid of the Calvin Kleins, do the loose boxer shorts, no hot baths."

However, it seems it’s not just tight trousers that can pose a problem for couples trying for a baby. The 44-year-old, who has been married to the First Cut is the Deepest singer since 2007, recalled a conversation she had with a celebrity chef a few years ago who also received similar advice.

"Then I spoke with a very famous celebrity chef, who said he was having similar issues trying to produce a baby and they had told him one of the problems is because you are standing by the oven, and men are designed the way they are, to keep it on the outside of the body, to keep them cool and when they are standing there by the oven, they are heating them up,” she said.

"So anyone out there, any men, don't use this as an excuse necessarily, but if you're trying to make a baby and are having problems, don't go near the oven."

We wonder how many guys will use this as an excuse to get out of cooking for a while?!

This 70-year-old is famed for his tight trousers so we're wondering how he took the news that they had to be put away for a bit!
