There are very few mothers out there who haven't, at one time or another, struggled with the inordinate pressures of parenthood.

Whether these feelings were the result of a litany of issues or the repercussions of a poor judgement call, sometimes we feel that we simply don't measure up and struggle to assess our role as mum objectively.

Eager to support fellow mothers who also experience feelings of doubt and insecurity when it comes to motherhood, much-loved Hollywood actress, Natalie Portman, insists we hold ourselves in the same high esteem others do.

The actress, who became a mum for the first time in June 2011, acknowledges the sometimes unbearable pressure placed on mothers in today's society, but suggests we take the time to look objectively at our own personal circumstance,

Speaking to Vogue magazine, the 34-year-old Black Swan star says: "Give yourself a break - literally and figuratively. We all hold ourselves to such a high standard and it's a constant balancing act."

Like many mothers, Natalie. who married ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied in 2012, can find herself unfairly critiquing her capabilities as a parent, which she insists we shouldn't do, saying: "If you have one bad day, don't let it define you. There's always tomorrow."

As a mother, actress and political activist, the Israeli-born star juggles numerous responsibilities on a daily basis, but insists the key to ensuring emotional wellbeing is remembering that you too deserve your own undivided attention at times.

Reflecting on this, the popular star encourages mothers to nurture this notion, saying: "It's important to carve out time for yourself. It's easy to forget that but it's so important."

We couldn't agree more.
