Well, ladies it's February 29th and we all know what that means, don't we? It's the day us gals can get down on one knee and pop that oh-so-important question to the special man in our life, right?

Well, if you were planning on surprising your significant other today, you may want to ensure he doesn't get wind of a warning issued by Gardaí in Naas last night.

Taking to Facecbook to make a public service announcement, the lads in blue wrote: "Gardai in Naas are warning single men to be on the lookout tomorrow for any women who may approach them in a sinister fashion."

"They may be in possession of a small, ring-sized jewellery box and might look like they are about to throw themselves to their knees," the Gardaí continued. "Incidents like this last happened in the area almost exactly four years ago and the unfortunate male victims still haven’t recovered."

Issuing advice to anyone who finds themselves in the situation, the post continued: "There is no escape really so just take it like a….. well like a man really. This is not a matter that the local Garda station can help you with so either run and hide, don’t leave the house or else just say yes!"

Finishing the tongue-in-cheek statement with a cheeky quip, the Kildare force appealed for the public to come forward, concluding: "Let us know if there are any victims locally to this 29th February onslaught and good luck to any “attackers”"

Unsurprisingly, social media users have delighted in the playful post and have wasted no time spreading the message to others.
