Gardaí urge parents NOT to buy popular gift with the help of Santa

The Gardaí are warning parents against purchasing one very dangerous Christmas present this year. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has enlisted the help of the man himself- Santa Clause- to send the urgent message to parents this Christmas.

The Garda Commissioner shared a letter on Twitter in a bid to stop parents buying the harmful quadbikes for their children.

The bikes have caused major injuries and even death in recent years.

The letter reads: "Dear Commissioner Harris, It’s your old friend Santa here- I’m in a pickle and I hope you can help me out!

“The boys and girls of Ireland have been sending me lovely letters with their Christmas wishes. Some children have asked me for quadbikes/scramblers. I’m very worried, I’ve seen how many young people are injured each year in quadbike accidents.”

He continued: “Please pass on this safety message: quadbikes are not suitable gifts for children unless they are used with safety equipment and in a safe place (not a public road.)

“They cannot be used in public parks unless there is a designated area. I can’t bear to see any more hurt children or sad parents.

“I’ve made my list and I’m checking it twice, looking forward to visiting Ireland on the 25,” he concludes.

Scrambler bikes have caused far too much harm in Ireland as of late so we are delighted to see the Gardaí making a major effort to stop parents purchasing them.

This is such a clever way to send such an urgent and vital message as we inch closer to the Christmas holidays.
