Is it teething time for your little one?
There are small things in your family’s life that contribute to obesity and taking a few small steps can make a huge difference.
For example, sugary drinks, which include fizzy drinks, squashes, cordials and juice drinks, are linked to excess weight in children.
If your family loves sweetened or fizzy drinks, reduce them gradually rather than just taking them away. You can start by adding plenty of water to cordials and squashes and add a little extra each time to reduce your child’s taste for sweetness.
If your child is really attached to their sugary drinks, you can use soft drinks and juice drinks as a treat at the weekend.
Make sure water is freely available between meals and remember it doesn’t need to be boring. Keep a jug of water in the fridge and add a slice of lemon, lime or orange to give it a subtle flavour. Water will suddenly seem more interesting to your children and it always tastes better when cold.
