If there's one school fundraiser that's genuinely easy to get behind, it's this one. GOAL Jersey Day is back for 2026, and it has just been officially launched by Shamrock Rovers and Cape Verde star Pico Lopes and Ireland rugby player Dan Sheehan, which means your kids now have the perfect excuse to wear their favourite jersey to school this October.
No baking required. No raffle tickets to sell to reluctant neighbours. Just a jersey, a donation, and a good cause. Honestly, it's the kind of fundraiser that makes you feel like you've got your life together.
What is GOAL Jersey Day?
Now in its 38th year, GOAL Jersey Day is one of Ireland's longest-running charity fundraising campaigns. Throughout October, schools, workplaces, clubs and communities are invited to pick a day, pull on their favourite sports jersey — GAA, soccer, rugby, basketball, hockey, whatever they love — and make a donation to GOAL.
GOAL is an Irish humanitarian organisation currently working in 18 countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, supporting communities affected by crisis. The money raised through Jersey Day goes directly towards that work.
Last year, over 360 schools and 100 workplaces took part and raised an incredible €288,000. That's a lot of jerseys. And a lot of good being done by people who simply got dressed in the morning and brought a few euro to school or the office.
What the stars are saying
The 2026 campaign was launched at Lansdowne RFC in Dublin, where Pico Lopes and Dan Sheehan were joined by children from Greystones Community National School. Both athletes are clearly passionate about getting as many people involved as possible this year.
Pico Lopes said, "There's something special about putting on your team's jersey. It represents your club, your community and the people you share those moments with. That's why Jersey Day is such a great initiative. Whatever team you support, get your jersey on this October and help raise funds for GOAL."
Dan Sheehan added, "Sport is brilliant at bringing people together, whether that's on the pitch, in school or in the workplace. GOAL Jersey Day is a really simple way to get involved and support an important cause. I'm delighted to be part of it this year and hopefully we'll see plenty of jerseys out this October."
Salina Janzan, GOAL's Senior Fundraising Manager, summed it up well: "GOAL Jersey Day has been bringing people together for 38 years. We're incredibly grateful for everyone's support and want to make this year the best year ever."
How to get your school involved
Getting involved couldn't be simpler. Schools, workplaces and community groups can register at jerseyday.org to receive a free GOAL Jersey Day fundraising pack. Then just pick your day in October, send the message around the school WhatsApp (you know the one), and let the jerseys do the rest.
It's the kind of thing the kids will actually be excited about on the morning — no arguments about the uniform, no last-minute scramble. Just them proudly wearing their county colours or their favourite Premier League kit with absolutely zero guilt. A rare and beautiful thing.
