Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester slams idea of a mums work-life balance

As mums the idea of a work-life balance is a bit of a pain.

We're meant to believe that we can ''have it all'' but really, life is just too difficult.

We might think that celebrities have it much easier than us and they do in some ways, but in others, they still encounter similar parenting issues.

Former Gossip Girl actor Leighton Meester has opened up about her struggles in balancing motherhood with everything else that comes with being an adult.

Leighton is mum to three-year-old Arlo with her husband, fellow actor Adam Brody.

She told Shape about how she handles motherhood.

She said, ''I feel that I am really lucky, and yet, still, I stepped into the hardest job in the world: being a mom.''

She doesn't have any time for being the perfect mother - because it's not reality.

She said, ''I just don't believe in balance. I think that's not possible if you're a working mother - and with single mothers, I can not even imagine that.''

She continued, ''I love playing Angie because we discuss how hard the struggle is to feel like you are enough."

She added, ''Some days my husband makes dinner, and some days I do. Other days, I'm too tired, and I eat a bowl of cereal for dinner. It's just the thing we do to make it work.''

We love what  Leighton has to say and - she's just like us - a mum trying to get things done to the best of her ability.
